Obituary for Hyacinth P. (Hy) Perra
Hyacinth P. (Hy) Perra 91 of LaSalle passed away Saturday May 19 at 6:10AM in Manor Court Peru. A funeral mass will be Wednesday May 23 at 10AM in St. Hyacinth Church. Father Gregory Jarzombek of St. Bede Abbey will officiate. Burial will follow in St. Hyacinth Cemetery with full military rites conducted by the LaSalle / Oglesby Veterans Memorial Group. Visitation will be Tuesday May 22 in the Burgess Funeral Home in LaSalle from 5 to 7PM. A scripture service will be conducted at 4:45PM. Additional visitation will be in the church on Wednesday from 9AM until the time of services.
He was born on August 11, 1926 in the family’s home to Hyacinth L. and Clara (Affelt) Perra.
He served his country in the Army during World War II in the Philippine Islands with the 640th tank destroyer’s unit. He achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant.
He was employed by Orsinger’s Bakery in La Salle, and Union Carbide Bakelite in Ottawa until his retirement.
He was a member of St. Hyacinth Church where he served as an usher for many years. He was a member of St. Stephen’s Society, a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW #4668), a life member of the National Rifle Association, and a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters.
He is survived by;
1 brother: William “Bill” (Sandy) Perra of La Salle
1 sister: Dorothy (Ron) Carter of Peru.
Several nieces and nephews, great nieces, and great-great nieces and nephew.
1 aunt and many cousins.
He was preceded in death by:
His parents, 1 sister Vivian (Bill) Mindock, and 1 nephew killed in Vietnam; Richard Mindock.
