Obituary for Donald W Andrews
Donald (Don) Andrews 79 of Peru died Monday, October 16th at 11:00 PM shortly after arrival in IVCH Emergency Room in Peru. A funeral mass will be held Saturday, October 21st at 11:30 AM at St. Mary’s Church in Peru. Father Jacob Rose, Pastor of Peru Catholic Churches in Peru, will officiate. Burial will follow at St. Vincent’s Cemetery. A flag folding ceremony will be conducted by the La Salle/ Oglesby Veterans Memorial Group. Visitation will be Saturday in the Burgess Funeral Home in La Salle from 9:00 AM until the time of services.
Don was born in Moline, Illinois on March 25, 1938 to Lyle and Anna (Rohde) Andrews and was raised in Utica, Illinois.
He attended LaSalle Peru Twp. High School, LPO Junior College, and graduated with a degree in Journalism and Public Relations from Bradley University, Peoria.
He served in the United States Army from 1960 through 1963 in the Army Security Agency. During that time he was stationed in Vietnam for 15 months.
On November 9, 1963 in St. Roch’s Church La Salle he married the love of his life, Jill Gregorich.
He was employed by Westclox in Peru as Employment Manager for over 15 years. He finished his professional career with Heico in Mendota as Director of Human Resources.
He was a member of St. Mary’s Church in Peru, where he was a reader for many years. He was also active in the United Way as Public Relations Chairman, a member of the VFW #4638 in La Salle, and a member of the Illinois Valley Personnel Association, where he was president for several years.
His faith in God and his love for his family were most important in his life. He loved to cheer on the Bears – win or lose.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years
1 daughter: Pam (Jeff Puyear) Andrews Cavanaugh
4 sisters: Betty (Chuck) Hightower of La Salle, Lila Gorisek of Georgia, Patty (Jack) Edgcomb of La Salle, Margie (Paul) Chapman of Minnesota.
1 brother: Bill (Lisa) Andrews of Rochelle
4 grandchildren: Kristin and Sarah Valle, Katie and Andrew Cavanaugh
Several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by daughter Peggy Andrews Valle in 2003, his parents, and his brother Gene Andrews.
Memorials may be directed to the family to be distributed among his favorite charities.
